Mini Task-Amy Taylor

Our devised piece of theatre was used to show awareness of suicide and to tell a story. We decided to do it in a story because this way the audience will get attached emotional to the characters and that way they can feel the feeling that the characters are feeling throughout the piece.
We used techniques such as masks, to dehumanise the actors because at this point facts would be shown to the audience for example how many people die a year from suicide, this is for the underline message of being scared of the facts. This technique was perfect in our piece and worked really well as the audience evaluation said that they were surprised with the facts and the masks really help to draw the attention away from the actors but more on to the facts. Masks were used in commedia dell’arte which is what initially influenced me to use them because it shows that tey are an effective tool in theatre. I researched masks in more depth and I found a French director that tried to push the boundaries of theatre and he goes by the name of Jacques Copeau , he “attempted to move away from Naturalism. He turned to sources such as Oriental Theatre and commedia dell'arte, both of which forms feature masks prominently.”

Three sisters- Paul Garnett

During the process of rehearsing the three sisters by Chekhov, I have learn't many things.
The first thing I as an actor found was that if i dint prepare myself for the scene beforefor examle doing a pre scene to establish what my character 'Tuzenbach' would be doing before the scene started, this help me to establish whether 'tuzenbach would be ytired and out of breathe if he had been on a long journey to the sisters house or if he had a previous injury that was effecting his walk. I settled with him having some eye difficulty which meant he had to wear glasses on occasion, but the glasses he was forced to wear are not the most fashionable which meant he tried to put off wearing them.

Also I was looking at home to establish ways I could delve depper into the character and I came across animal studies, this was touched on this with Amy Taylor in physical theatre. I decieded that the animal that resembled Tuzenback was a Giraffe because they both have try to pretend something there no for example tuzenback acts like hes really cool and slick but underneath hes a nervous reck around Irina, this is similar to a  Girafe because a giraffe has a similar to pattern to a cheetah, this resembles trying to be something there not. Also a Giraffe is a loving animal and Tuzenbach shows his loving side with Irina.

Finally I  found that in terms of getting into character, I prefer to be wearing the characters clothes to fully be remble the character and I struggle to feel and be the character if I am not wearing the clothes and especially shoes of the character because this way I can feel how it would effect the movement, the sitting and the speech of the character.
